10 Apples Up On Top

10 Apples Up On Top

This morning has been busy! While we were outside we took a break from playing to collect dried green beans from the garden. We’ll store them so we can plant them next year. It was a great activity for working on some fine motor skills as we had to peel the shells and pinch the tiny beans to put them in our container. For story time we read “Ten Apples Up on Top”. This will be the third time we…

Happy Mother’s Day 2021

Happy Mother’s Day 2021

My first year in child care a super sweet parent gave me a large print of the poem “Daycare Provider”. You know this one… it begins with “although I’m not their mother”. I keep it still because it’s a reminder of the expectation and standard that I aspire to. But the truth is… no child care provider, no matter how loving, can possibly compare to Mother. Sometimes especially as moms it’s so hard to drop your child off at daycare,…

Earth Day!

Earth Day!

For Earth Day we read Curious George Plants a Tree, and (one of my favorites) The Water Hole. The older kiddos made paintings of the earth and the babies got to play with paint in a mess free, sensory way. We played with playdoh and plastic animals, making tracks in the playdoh, and we talked about our favorite ones. After circle time was done we watched an episode of one of our favorite shows, Ask The Storybots, and learned all…

Week in Review – Letter K

Week in Review – Letter K

This week our focus was the letter Kk. We read Koala Lou and Does A Kangaroo Have a Mother Too. We learned about koalas, kookaburras and kangaroos! We turned the letter K into mamma kangaroos and joeys, and we sang the Kookaburra song. We played outside and even though today was rainy we made kites that we can fly another time.

Week in Review – Letter Jj

Week in Review – Letter Jj

This week’s focus was the letter J, and we had fun with it! We made jaguars, jellyfish and jet planes, we did jellyfish math and learned new songs and dances, and we played some new file folder games. We used pony beads and play doh to form letters, and we watched our peas sprout in the garden.

Happy Easter! / Week in Review

Happy Easter! / Week in Review

What a fun week! We spent some time in the garden planting peas and talking about spring, we read lots of fun books (it was hard to pick a favorite this week), did colorful Easter crafts, turned ourselves into bunnies and of course had an egg hunt to close out the week!

Week In Review – Letter Ii

Week In Review – Letter Ii

Another cold, rainy week except for today, so we are definitely looking forward to some sunshine next week! This week we learned about the letter I i and the number 9. We made insects, iguanas, and inchworms; we used playdoh to make insects as well; we colored and painted with dab markers, and we played with ice. Even the little ones got in on the ice drawings with us. We aren’t moving on to letter Jj just yet – next…

PJs and Popcorn Party!

PJs and Popcorn Party!

We’ve had a couple weeks of sunshine and warmer weather here and were expecting a rainy, cold day today. So, to close out the week we had a PJ day and popcorn party! Story Time and Circle Time were popcorn themed this morning. I created some educational popcorn games and we played with painting popcorn. The 2 year olds LOVED our popcorn color match game! After nap we ate popcorn while watching a movie. The kids picked Big Hero 6….
