Silly Alphabet Soup!
Our theme this week is ABC/123–a good time to review our letters and numbers.
This was a super fun group activity the kids really enjoyed. And since we had a smaller crew today, it was perfect. Each kiddo got a good 5 turns in so keeping them engaged was a breeze.
First I got a big pot ready and filled the bottom with pom poms and alphabet beads and water to make it more fun. We sat in a circle with our soup pot in the middle and passed around a paper bag containing some brightly painted wooden letters. With each letter we drew I showed the kids a corresponding card. Each card had 3 ingredients pictured, with only 1 ingredient beginning with the sound our chosen letter makes. We reviewed what sound the letter makes and then sounded out each of our ingredients to determine which one matched the letter. Then we added our letter and took turns stirring the pot.
Some ingredients were just what you would expect to find in any sensible soup. Some were rather silly, like cake, lollipops and hotdogs! The kids loved when we got a silly ingredient. I think this is an activity we will definitely keep in our repertoire!
