We’re back to circle time!
It’s been a fun, care-free summer but now we’re ready to get back to our daily circle time, books, and projects. I’m taking a different approach this year, rather than building our activities for the week around a letter of the alphabet I’m using a different theme every week. This opens up a wider variety of possibilities to promote literacy, math, and motor skills that will help us get ready for preschool and kindergarten. Of course, we still open circle time every day with a letter of the week and number of the week when we update our circle time board.
I am also using fewer toys and introducing different open-ended/productive play type activities for the younger kids. My goal is to truly make my program one that is educational through play as well as group activities.
This week our theme was “All About Me”. We talked about what makes us different, our family trees, and our feelings. Our reading list included:
-I Like Myself!
-Marvelous Me
-Me and My Family Tree
-The Way I Feel (this was our favorite read this week)
Here are some photo highlights from our “All About Me” week! We did invisible name art, played the number family match game, made pasta portraits of ourselves, made salt dough handprints, played a rainbow rice alphabet hunt and match game, used playdoh to model emotions, and more. Sometimes I get to snap some pictures and sometimes I don’t, but here are some of the best from this week.
